Game Face Podcast: How 10 Friends Found NIL Success Together

How The Hockey Guys are building a thriving business in the NIL era

The Hockey Guys on Game Face podcast talking NIL

Last Updated on February 1, 2022

This week on my Game Face podcast with Linktree, I’m joined by quite the trio: David Kaplan, Austin Friesen and Will Blake, who make up 3/10ths of The Hockey Guys

The Hockey Guys are a popular group of college hockey players who make content for people of all different walks of life to consume, showing what happens on and off the ice. With a devoted audience, brands who want to partner with them and a growing business, these guys are making the most of the new NIL rights afforded to them and getting hands on experience that will take them far beyond graduation.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How they plan and coordinate content with 10 members
  • The ways in which they translate their lives on and off the ice into content their audience loves
  • Where they hope The Hockey Guys takes them after graduation
  • How they’ve faced the challenge of having international student athletes in the group (who can’t earn from NIL currently)
  • And so much more!

You can listen below or on your favorite podcast platform.

If you liked that, check out my deep dive with member David Kaplan on my Business of College Sports podcast, where we go into even more detail on how this group is using NIL to gain entrepreneurial skills and grow an impressive business.

You can also listen to previous episodes here and share with student athletes you know who want to build their brands and grow their platforms!
