PlayBooked, a platform/mobile app designed to help collegiate athletes monetize their years in college sports that was co-founded by Aquinas College Volleyball star Chloe V. Mitchell, honored 217 San Diego State University student-athletes who achieved academic excellence.
Male and female SDSU athletes from almost every sport on campus were honored for their excellence in the classroom. PlayBooked punctuated this accomplishment by providing each scholar-athlete with a paid opportunity to share the news of their achievement on their social media platforms.
“It feels great to be celebrated in NIL for being a scholar-athlete,” shared Jayden Perez, one of the scholar-athletes and a member of the SDSU women’s basketball team. ”I think it is so important to also reward academic success because for most of us athletes this is what will carry us after our college career is over. It’s also important to show younger athletes how succeeding in academics is a huge part of playing college sports.”
“I believe having awards for academics for student-athletes reiterates an important message that often gets lost as student-athletes,” said Aguek Arop, SDSU scholar and member of the Aztec men’s basketball team. “Namely, that we’re not only here to excel in athletics but in academics as well. Most of us won’t continue [sports] after college but that’s when our education comes into play and it’s crucial we never forget that.”
“We are thrilled to hear about the deal PlayBooked is offering to our student-athletes,” stated Michelle Meyer, NIL Coordinator for SDSU. “This is just another great example of the positives NIL offers -– student-athletes being rewarded for their hard work in the classroom and not solely for their athletic achievements.
“At PlayBooked we love championships and athletic prowess like any fan, but today we celebrate the gains of these bright young minds,” explains Ken Konecki, PlayBooked President and Encinitas resident. “Athletes aren’t brands. They are scholars, athletes, and social media influencers.”
Many of these scholar-athletes have created a personal profile in the PlayBooked app where SDSU fans
and alumni have direct access to book them for live video chats or video shout outs. National brands and
local San Diego businesses can also book athletes via the app to promote their products or services.
