New Partnership Expands Data and Analysis for College Athletics

Last Updated on January 8, 2026
I’ve worked on consulting projects with College Sports Solutions for more than a decade now. One of the most notable was a study for UAB after they cut football, which ultimately resulted in football being reinstated. But I’ve done many more around NIL, naming rights for facilities, strategic planning and more.
One of the keys to a comprehensive study is data, much of which we obtain through FOIA requests. I takes an incredible amount of time and resources to compile the necessary data, and that’s why I’m excited to announce that College Sports Solutions has a new partnership with Extra Points.
This non-exclusive partnership will make data and documents from the Extra Points Library available for all CSS projects. CSS will also share documents from previous consulting projects with the Extra Points Library, which will be accessible to all EPL users.
What this partnership will look like
CSS’s team, led by founder Jeff Schemmel, former San Diego State athletic director and longtime college sports industry expert, will leverage the EPL to assist with benchmarking, executive searches, sport sponsorship studies, and other athletic department and conference projects. Drawing from a team that includes former ADs, marketing experts, sports lawyers and other professionals, CSS is well-positioned to make EPL’s data actionable.
I will be spearheading new projects arising from this partnership. Combining my nearly two decades of experience and research on the business of college sports with the Extra Points Library, I’ll be able to help schools and conferences access the information and insights they need to make informed decisions in the quickly changing landscape of college athletics.
Examples of previous CSS projects include a conference affiliation and football feasibility study for Wichita State, an operational review of UConn athletics, and the Big West Conference commissioner search that resulted in the hire of Dan Butterly.
How will the Extra Points Library enhance CSS’s consulting projects?
The Extra Points Library is a database that now includes more than 9,000 documents. That includes hundreds of itemized athletic department budgets, vendor contracts, coach contracts, GM contracts, and much more. Extra Points has spent time and energy building the database because they think this information, when organized correctly, can improve academic research, newsroom coverage and athletic department decision-making.
By leveraging this incredible resource, CSS will be able to help athletic departments, conference offices, and others in the college athletics space make educated decisions with the most up-to-date information available.
“We are thrilled about this new partnership with Matt Brown and Extra Points.” adds Schemmel. “This will expand our ability to scrutinize the marketplace and provide our clients with the best analysis and recommendations as they look for ways to achieve their financial goals and become more efficient in their operations. Extra Points Library has become the very best source of critical data in college athletics, and we can now take that data and help conferences and universities plan effective strategies to maximize their returns.”
We all believe this means CSS will get better and Extra Points Library will get better. And that’s what we’re trying to do. Help things get better.
