White Tulane Jerseys For Sale to Honor 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

In 2005, Tulane Football wore white uniforms for its delayed opener in Shreveport, Louisiana against Mississippi State following Hurricane Katrina’s landfall. The team had hoped to wear white jerseys in last Saturday’s game against Northwestern to honor the 20-year anniversary, but the request was denied, sparking criticism from college football fans across the country.
Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall said it motivated his team in their 23-3 win.
“It got denied by [Northwestern], that’s their prerogative, but when you show disrespect to the city of New Orleans, that’s what’s going to happen to you,” Sumrall said. “You’re going to run into a team like this — they had a chip on their shoulder.”
On Monday, Northwestern coach David Braun responded, saying, “”Certainly not a gesture of disrespect, but the timing of the request did impact our ability to honor the request.”
Northwestern says it received the request on August 17th but had already prepared its own white uniforms and decals for the game and that uniform changes are usually requested several months in advance.
Today, the NIL Store announced the launch of officially licensed, commemorative 2005 Replica NIL Football Jerseys to honor the anniversary.
In addition to supporting the athletes with every sale, the NIL Store says it is donating a portion of all proceeds from jersey sales to the American Red Cross of Louisiana.
The jerseys are now available online and can be purchased for all Tulane football players currently signed to the NIL Store platform, including star quarterback Jake Retzlaff. Each purchase directly benefits Tulane student-athletes through the NIL Store’s revenue-sharing model, ensuring today’s Green Wave players are supported.
