The buzz is building in the 757 area code as fans gear up for NFL legend Michael Vick’s head coaching debut with the Norfolk State Spartans. Norfolk State reported that general admission football ticket prices have increased from $110 to $200 for the upcoming season, a rise of over 80%. The price hike marks a seminal shift not only in the program’s history, but also in the post-House v. NCAA settlement era, where college athletes will share the revenue with their universities. A portion of ticket sales will contribute to Norfolk State’s name, image, and likeness initiatives.
“Our decision to join the NCAA’s revenue-sharing plan emphasizes Norfolk State’s unwavering commitment to our student athletes,” said Dr. Melody Webb, NSU Director of Athletics. “This choice to opt into the principles of the House Settlement underscores our dedication to advancing our athletics department as we prepare for a new era in collegiate athletics. As we join other institutions in adopting this evolving revenue-sharing model, we remain committed to navigating this journey for the benefit of our student-athletes. We are resolute in our goal to not only stay competitive but also achieve championship success.”
Spartan fans will have five opportunities to pack out William “Dick” Price as they face the likes of Towson University (8/28), Virginia State (9/6), the Battle of the States, Sacred Heart (9/20), South Carolina State (10/25), and Morgan State (11/25). Norfolk State led the MEAC in attendance last season, with an average of 14,000 fans at each home game. NSU students with a valid ID and children under 6 feet tall are eligible for free admission. Tickets can be purchased online or at the NSU Ticket Center, Monday through Friday.
In December 2024, Michael Vick was hired as head coach at Norfolk State, and the announcement sparked significant fanfare and excitement. Vick is arguably the most iconic figure in Virginia sports history and will write a new chapter in Norfolk State’s history. Moreover, the football team will be the focal point of a featured docu-series on BET, showcasing Vick’s coaching journey and inaugural season.
