The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced plans for a suite of educational offerings specifically focused on name, image and likeness (NIL), including the launch of the brand-new NIL Educational Seminar presented by MOGL that will take place during the 2023 NACDA & Affiliates Convention Week at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla.
The NIL Educational Seminar presented by MOGL is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. for Convention attendees. The agenda features six, 30-minute sessions with topics geared toward NIL at both the macro and micro levels, for both Division I and small schools, with guidance provided directly from professional practitioners and campus administrators.
“NACDA’s new NIL Educational Seminar fulfills a very real need for our members who are working diligently to understand and educate their constituents on this new sector of the industry,” said NACDA President Rick Hart, athletics director at Southern Methodist University (SMU). “Convention attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about NIL trends and best practices to take back to their campuses that will be valuable and transferable regardless of the size of their department.”
The programming is being facilitated by two industry leaders in the NIL space – Kristi Dosh, writer, consultant and speaker with a special focus on NIL, and Michelle Meyer, former collegiate athletics administrator and founder of NIL Network.
“A common misconception about building an NIL program is that you need to have a massive budget,” said Meyer. “However, there have been countless creative initiatives implemented with minimal or zero cost. Through this NACDA programming, we hope that administrators can walk away with a better understanding of the support their student-athletes (and community!) need along with ideas and strategies that may work for their department.”
“Name, image and likeness has impacted every aspect of college athletics from marketing and recruiting to licensing, facilities and more,” Dosh said. “There is a need for education and the sharing of best practices within the industry, and we hope this programming is the first step in providing professional development support to those who work on campuses with student-athletes every day.”
“MOGL is proud to sponsor the NIL Educational Seminar at the 2023 NACDA & Affiliates Convention,” said Ayden Syal, CEO and co-founder of MOGL. “Our mission is to provide universities, collectives, and most importantly student-athletes with the technology, support, and resources that they need to navigate the NIL landscape in an informed and compliant manner. We are looking forward to working with NACDA, Kristi, Michelle and the other panelists to help athletics administrators prepare for Year 3 of NIL.”
Topics that will be covered within the NIL Programming Seminar include:
- Taking a holistic campus-wide approach to NIL
- Educating the community, businesses and donors on NIL
- Working with collectives
- Student-athlete NIL education
- Rebutting the presumption of a violation
- Job opportunities in NIL
You can check out the full agenda here.
The sessions will feature panel discussions with industry experts and NIL professionals from both the collegiate and corporate realm, with content tailored to on-campus administrators at all levels of competition.
NACDA’s NIL educational offerings under this platform guided by Dosh and Meyer will also extend to three virtual programming sessions to take place this spring prior to the Convention. These webinars are free and open to all NACDA & Affiliates members and will not require attendance at the in-person Convention sessions. More information regarding dates, times and topics for the NIL virtual programming sessions will be made available in the coming weeks.
