Student Athletes from All Three Divisions Share NIL Experience

Last Updated on January 18, 2024

Last week, I had the opportunity to moderate a panel of student athletes at NCAA Convention on the topic of name, image and likeness. The panel included athletes from all three divisions who have found ways to monetize their NIL.

Members of the panel included: Josh Africa, a former golfer at Penn State Harrisburg; Leah Clapper, a former women’s gymnast at Florida; Shani Idlette, a tennis player for Clark Atlanta; and Keshawn Lynch, a football student-athlete at Norfolk State.

The discussion covered how NIL has changed their student athlete experience, how they’ve found NIL deals, experiences working with an agent and both examples of successes and challenges. The athletes also shared how they think their schools or the NCAA could better support them in the future.
